In 1764 France establishes a colony on East Falkland, followed by the United Kingdom in 1766 on West Falkland.
The French settlement is transfered to Spain in 1767.

In 1820 Argentina claims sovereignty, followed by the forming of an Argetine settlement in 1826.
In 1833 the United Kingdoms occupies the archipelago and in 1892 the islands become the British colony of the Falkland Islands.
In 1982 Argentina invades the islands, but during that year it is defeated by the British.
Britain secedes in 1985 the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands from the Falkland Islands to form a seperate territory.
Politics in the Falkland Islands is not based on a party system.
All candidates run as non-partisans.
