The isle of Man, inhabited by Celts, is conquered by Vikings in the ninth century. In 1000 the Kingdom of Man becomes independent. This independence ends in 1077 when Man becomes a Norwegian, later Scottish, fiefdom. In 1346 Man becomes a English fiefdom. In 1827 Man becomes officially a British dependency, which is still governed in a semi-feudal way. In 1866 Man gets an elected parliament. Man is now a parliamentary democracy. Elections are held without official party attribution, but some member sof parliament represent the Alliance for Progressive Government (APG) and the Manx Labour Party (MLP).
